“The universe that may seem chaotic to us, is built upon its own code of order, one that is interwoven with the force of nature's vitality. This same energy that emerges and vibrates the cosmos, flows through the soul of man- It is here that we will find the key to our understanding the worlds we live in. One must arrive at the inner roots of his pure being in order to see the force that binds us all together. It is in pursuit of this underlying invisible structure that permeates our lives, that I devote myself to my work."
-Lynn Bobowick, 1984
Lynn Bobowick (1956-2020) dedicated her life to creating a trove of paintings, ceramics, works on paper and prints exploring the Language of Light Geometry, a form of Sacred Geometry that originated with Mayan and Aztec cultures giving visual form to underlying energetic structures. In the tradition of artists like Hilma af Klint, Kazimir Malevich, Wassily Kandinksy and other pioneers of Modern Abstraction, Bobowick’s practice is rooted in the metaphysical and spiritual pursuit of using aesthetics to illustrate frequencies felt but not seen.
Bobowick received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1978 and her MFA from Pratt Institute in 1984. After graduating, she remained in New York City for her entire life, acquiring a studio in SOHO from famed collectors Erika and Rolf Hoffman. Despite her location in the center of the New York art scene, she made no effort to establish a commercial career, instead focusing on her spiritual and artistic practices. She aspired to eventually exhibit her oeuvre in a space she referred to as the Museum of Light, much like af Klint’s Paintings for the Temple series, works she envisioned displaying in a temple she hoped to construct.
After her passing, Bobowick’s estate was lovingly looked after by her sister Gail Bobowick. In 2024, Salma Echahly and Kyle Feuer acquired the estate.
